ANNOUNCEMENTS
Opportunities FOR Mission and Ministry:
General
Welcome to Congers UMC, we are happy to have you with us!
November 24 on the Christian liturgical calendar, is the Reign of Christ/Christ the King Sunday, which is the concluding week of the Christian liturgical year. It speaks to the preeminence of Jesus and his Lordship over all creation.
Next Sunday, December 1, will be the beginning of the Christian year, the season of Advent.
November is Celebration of Stewardship Month at Congers Church. Each Sunday a lay witness will offer testimonies of God’s goodness through Congers Church and our response of grace through the offering of
our time, talents and financial gifts. On Thanksgiving Sunday November 24, we will celebrate and consecrate our pledges to the 2025 mission and budget year.
Our online giving is now active. This is the link: https://giv.li/fafchx
This Sunday we give thanks to God for the Thanksgiving holiday, celebrated this year on Thursday
November 28, 2024. It is a national holiday celebrated on various dates in October and November in the United States, Canada, Saint Lucia, Liberia, and also, unofficially in Brazil, Germany and the Philippines. The more familiar Thanksgiving precedent accompanied by feasting is traced to the Pilgrims and Puritans who emigrated from England in the 1620s and 1630s. The Pilgrims celebrated harvest with Native Americans who had helped them get through the previous winter by giving them food in that time of scarcity.
November is Native American Heritage Month. It is celebrated each year in November. It is a time to celebrate the traditions, languages and stories of Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and affiliated Island communities and ensure that their rich histories and contributions continue to thrive with each passing generation.

We pray for God’s Peace and Justice throughout this world: The United Nations lists these concerns: wars, such as in the Ukraine occupied by Russia; the unrest in Israel/Palestine; coordinating assistance of all kinds to help Africa help itself; The world’s population is aging, and virtually every country in the world is experiencing growth in the number and proportion of older persons in their population; global issues such as: atomic energy, children, climate change, democracy, disarmament, and food, etc.
